Lt. Leon Wasilewski (ret), co-owner of Guardian Tracking, retired after thirty years in law enforcement, twenty of which were spent in supervision. Leon’s project management skills were utilized on many large scale projects including; managing the initial CALEA accreditation process; implementation of the department’s dictation system; managing a radio project for the City of Anderson (that reduced the number of different systems from thirteen to… one); managing the funding and implementation of the department’s Mobile Data System; implementing a new law enforcement records and computer-aided dispatching software (a multi-agency project) and finally managing the building of Anderson’s new police department complex, a 40,000 square foot facility which opened in August of 2004.  After the initial accreditation process Leon became an assessor for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

  • Why GT? (What led you to this path? And what keeps you going?)

I knew there had to be a better way. As supervisors we spent the majority of our time dealing with problems and not celebrating successes. Law enforcement was improving in so many areas, but the way employee performance was managed, and the related information collected and stored, had remained virtually unchanged. We were great at correcting problems but terrible when it came to providing feedback to our highest performing employees. Guardian Tracking was created to fill that void; to give corrective feedback when appropriate but to also let high performers know that they are valued by the organization.

  • When you’re not working, what can you be found doing?

Although I don’t do it enough, I love to travel. I enjoy spending time with my wife, Kathi, and our grown sons Mark and Ben. I have two beautiful granddaughters who certainly know how to keep life interesting. In my younger days I was a basketball junkie. Now, after multiple knee surgeries and a total knee replacement, I stick to the ever frustrating sport of golf.
